Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water (between 100-110°F; approximately 30 seconds in the microwave)
  • ½ cup olive oil (for richness and flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (to feed the yeast and add sweetness)
  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast (the magic ingredient that makes them rise)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (to enhance flavor)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (the base of our rolls)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (melted, for brushing on top before baking)

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Clean kitchen towel
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper

Method

  1. Start by pouring the warm water into a mixing bowl. Add the granulated sugar and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Once your yeast is activated, add the olive oil and salt to the mixture. Stir until combined.
  3. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, one cup at a time, stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula until the dough begins to come together.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about 20-25 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
  7. Cover the shaped rolls with the kitchen towel again and let them rise for another 10-15 minutes, until they puff up slightly.
  8. While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Once the rolls have risen, brush the tops with the melted butter. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm with butter or your favorite spread!

Notes

  • Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days.
  • Freeze rolls in a freezer-safe bag for longer storage.
  • Thaw at room temperature or warm in the oven before serving.
