Make Air Fryer Falafel: A Simple Method
- Step 1: Blend the Ingredients - In a food processor, combine the rinsed chickpeas, quartered onion, chopped garlic, parsley, cilantro, scallions, cumin, salt, crushed red pepper flakes, and baking powder. Pulse until the mixture is coarse but well combined.
- Step 2: Add Flour - Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and stir in the flour. If the mixture feels too wet, gradually add more flour until it holds together when formed into a ball.
- Step 3: Chill the Mixture - Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the mixture chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Step 4: Shape the Falafel - Use a spoon or cookie scoop to portion out the mixture and form it into small balls or patties.
- Step 5: Preheat the Air Fryer - Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Step 6: Spray and Cook - Arrange the falafel in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Lightly spray them with olive oil spray. Air fry for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- Step 7: Serve and Enjoy - Once cooked, remove the falafel from the air fryer and serve immediately with hummus, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, and tahini.
Notes
- Leftover falafel can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- To reheat, place them back in the air fryer for a few minutes to regain their crispy texture.
- You can freeze uncooked falafel balls for later use.
