Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning to form a paste.
Pat the whole chicken dry with paper towels. Rub the seasoning paste all over the chicken, including under the skin where possible.
Place the chicken breast-side down in the air fryer basket.
Cook for 30 minutes, then carefully flip the chicken so the breast is facing up.
Continue cooking for another 25–30 minutes, or until the chicken is evenly browned and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh reads 165°F (74°C).
Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving. Reserve any juices collected in the bottom of the air fryer if desired.
