Ingredients

For the Cake:
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 can (21-oz) apple pie filling
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (for the topping)
  • 1 cup butter, melted and cooled slightly (three sticks)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Electric Mixer
  • Baking pan (9x13-inch)
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cooling rack

Method

Directions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures your cake bakes evenly and achieves that perfect golden color.
  2. Step 2: Grease your 9x13-inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray. This will help your cake release easily after baking.
  3. Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, apple pie filling, vanilla extract, cinnamon, eggs, and milk. Use an electric mixer on medium speed to blend until smooth and creamy.
  4. Step 4: In a separate bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, melted butter, and flour. Use your hands or a pastry cutter to combine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Step 5: Pour the cake batter into your prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Then, sprinkle the crumb topping generously over the cake batter.
  6. Step 6: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Step 7: Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes.

Notes

  • Don’t overmix: Mix just until the ingredients are combined to avoid a dense cake.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother batter.
  • Allow your cake to cool before cutting for cleaner slices.
