Ingredients

Fruits

  • 2 cups apples, cored, peeled, and chopped Use tart apples like Granny Smith for best flavor.

Baking Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Oatmeal Base

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
  • ¼ cup honey or maple syrup Optional for added sweetness.

Instructions

  • Prepare your apples by peeling, coring, and chopping them into small pieces. Set aside.
  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, water, and salt. Stir to coat the apples.
  • Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, and a pinch of salt. Optionally, add honey or maple syrup for sweetness.
  • Fold the cooled apple mixture into the dry ingredients until fully combined.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper and grease it lightly.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then lift out using the parchment paper and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. They freeze well for up to three months.
