Instructions
Prepare your apples by peeling, coring, and chopping them into small pieces. Set aside.
Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, water, and salt. Stir to coat the apples.
Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
In a large mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, and a pinch of salt. Optionally, add honey or maple syrup for sweetness.
Fold the cooled apple mixture into the dry ingredients until fully combined.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper and grease it lightly.
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then lift out using the parchment paper and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. They freeze well for up to three months.
