Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the brownie mix package. In a mixing bowl, prepare the fudge brownie mix according to the package instructions. Pour the prepared brownie batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Bake for the time recommended on the box, usually around 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan.
- While the brownies cool, take 15 of the Oreos and crush them into fine crumbs. You can do this by placing them in a zip-top bag and using a rolling pin or by pulsing them in a food processor. Set aside.
- Once the brownies are cooled, remove them from the pan and place them back in the pan. Allow the brownies to cool completely, then spread a generous layer of cookies and cream ice cream over the brownie base, smoothing it out with a spatula. Make sure the ice cream is slightly softened for easier spreading.
- Drizzle the hot fudge topping evenly over the ice cream layer. Then, sprinkle the crushed Oreos on top of the fudge, making sure to evenly distribute them for maximum crunch in every bite.
- Spread the thawed whipped topping over the crushed Oreos, smoothing it out to create an even layer. This will give your bars a lovely creamy finish.
- Cover the pan with plastic wrap or foil and place the assembled dessert in the freezer for at least 4 hours, or until completely firm. This step is crucial for the bars to hold their shape when cut.
- Once the bars are fully frozen, remove them from the freezer and let them sit at room temperature for about 5-10 minutes for easier cutting. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice the bars into squares. Serve immediately or store them in a freezer-safe container for later enjoyment.
Notes
- Make the bars a day ahead for easy entertaining.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer for up to two weeks.
- Feel free to swap out ice cream flavors for a fun twist!
