Ingredients

  • 6 slices feta cheese 2-3 cm thick
  • 200 g all-purpose flour
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 200 g sesame seeds
  • Pepper to taste
  • Sunflower oil for frying
  • Honey for drizzling

Equipment

  • Frying Pan
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Spatula
  • Paper Towels
  • Honey drizzler or spoon

Method

  1. Start by slicing the feta cheese into 6 equal pieces, ensuring they are about 2-3 cm thick. This thickness is crucial for achieving that perfect melt while keeping the shape intact.
  2. In one bowl, add the all-purpose flour and season it lightly with pepper. In a second bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them until well combined. In a third bowl, place the sesame seeds.
  3. Take each slice of feta and first dip it into the flour, ensuring it is fully coated. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll the cheese slice in the sesame seeds, pressing gently to ensure they adhere well. Repeat this process for all cheese slices.
  4. In your frying pan, pour enough sunflower oil to cover the bottom of the pan generously. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers, indicating that it is ready for frying.
  5. Carefully place the coated feta slices into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use the spatula to flip them gently.
  6. Once the cheese is beautifully golden, remove it from the pan and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  7. Drizzle the fried feta with honey while it’s still warm. Serve immediately for the best experience!

Notes

  • For a gluten-free option, substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour.
  • Experiment with different cheeses like kasseri or halloumi for variations.
  • Fried feta is best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days.
