Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken The star of the show!
  • 1 cup finely chopped fresh spinach Adds nutrition and color.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For that aromatic flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Enhances the savory taste.
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme, mixed Italian herbs, or sage Choose your favorite herb for added depth.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Adds a subtle smokiness.
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt Essential for seasoning.
  • 1 to taste freshly ground black pepper For that perfect kick.
  • 1 spray olive oil For cooking without sticking.
  • 5 low-calorie hamburger buns Toasted to perfection.
  • Optional toppings sliced avocado, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, sliced tomato, raw or sautéed onions.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Grill or skillet
  • Spatula
  • Meat Thermometer
  • Toaster

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, finely chopped spinach, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme (or your herb of choice), paprika, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until everything is well incorporated. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the burgers tough.
  2. Divide the mixture into five equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.
  3. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium heat. Lightly spray with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Place the patties on the preheated grill or skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). This ensures that your chicken burgers are safe to eat while remaining juicy.
  5. While the burgers are cooking, toast your low-calorie hamburger buns until they are golden brown. This adds a delightful crunch and enhances the overall texture of your burger.
  6. Once the chicken patties are cooked and the buns are toasted, it’s time to assemble! Place each patty on a bun and add your favorite toppings. Consider layering on sliced avocado, a dollop of mayonnaise, a squeeze of ketchup or mustard, crisp lettuce, slices of fresh tomato, and raw or sautéed onions for a delicious finish.

Notes

  • Make the patties ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
  • Freeze uncooked patties between parchment paper for up to 3 months.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure burgers are cooked to 165°F (75°C).
