  • 1 cup peanut butter or nut-free alternative
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract for aroma and flavor
Dry Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda leavening agent
  • 1/8 tsp salt to enhance flavor
  • 1/4 cup flour plus 2 tbsp, can use various types
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar or preferred sweetener
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips optional but recommended
  • up to 2 tbsp milk of choice only if needed for thinning

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking.
  2. Step 2: Grease your 9x9 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  3. Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, combine the peanut butter, applesauce or yogurt, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  4. Step 4: Add the flour, baking soda, salt, and granulated sugar to the wet mixture. Mix until just combined.
  5. Step 5: Fold in the chocolate chips gently into the batter.
  6. Step 6: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  7. Step 7: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
  8. Step 8: Let cool for at least 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely and slice into squares.

Notes

  • These bars can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • For longer storage, refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Allow bars to cool completely before cutting to prevent crumbling.
