Ingredients

For the Muffins:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter melted, plus more to grease the pan
  • 1 egg room temperature, lightly beaten with a fork
  • ½ cup warm milk low fat or whole milk
For the Topping:
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter melted (for topping)

Equipment

  • Muffin Tin
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cooling rack

Method

Instructions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your muffins bake evenly.
  2. Lightly grease your muffin tin with melted butter to prevent sticking. You can also use muffin liners if you prefer.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, combine the melted butter, beaten egg, and warm milk. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and well incorporated.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Gently fold them together until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are perfectly fine.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon for the topping. Stir in the melted butter until you have a crumbly mixture.
  7. Spoon the muffin batter into the prepared muffin tin, filling each cup about ¾ full. Sprinkle the cinnamon topping generously over each muffin.
  8. Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
  9. Once baked, remove the muffins from the oven and let them cool in the tin for about 5 minutes. Then, transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely. Enjoy your homemade cinnamon muffins warm or at room temperature!

Notes

  • Room temperature ingredients blend better, leading to a smoother batter.
  • Don’t overmix the batter; this keeps your muffins tender and fluffy.
  • For an extra boost of flavor, consider adding vanilla extract to the wet ingredients.
