Classic Oatmeal Bread

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup oatmeal regular oats
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 teaspoons dry active yeast
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter cut into pieces

Method
 

  1. Step 1: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of oatmeal with 1 cup of boiling water. Stir well and let it sit for about 30 minutes.
  2. Step 2: In a separate bowl, mix the warm water with 2 teaspoons of dry active yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  3. Step 3: Add the oat mixture to the yeast mixture. Stir in 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt. Gradually incorporate 2 cups of all-purpose flour.
  4. Step 4: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Scatter the butter pieces over the dough, fold it over, and knead until smooth.
  6. Step 6: Lightly grease a bowl, place the dough inside, cover with a towel, and let it rise for about 1-1.5 hours.
  7. Step 7: Once risen, punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  8. Step 8: Cover with a towel and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  9. Step 9: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Step 10: Bake for about 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  11. Step 11: Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze slices wrapped in plastic for up to 3 months.
  • Toast frozen slices directly from the freezer for a quick snack.
