Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast one packet
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter for dough
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup marinara for dipping
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter for brushing
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt for topping

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or dough scraper
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Plastic wrap or kitchen towel

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is ready, add it to the flour mixture along with the hot water. Mix until a dough begins to form.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough, divide into 12-15 pieces, and roll each into a stick.
  6. Cover the shaped breadsticks and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt and Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  10. Let cool slightly and serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • These breadsticks can be made ahead and refrigerated after the first rise.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • For freezing, place baked sticks in a freezer-safe bag and reheat in the oven.
