In a small bowl, combine the warm water and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is ready, add it to the flour mixture along with the hot water. Mix until a dough begins to form.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Once risen, punch down the dough, divide into 12-15 pieces, and roll each into a stick.
Cover the shaped breadsticks and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt and Parmesan cheese.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
Let cool slightly and serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
