Ingredients

Onion

  • 1 large white onion Fresh and large for best results.

Coating Mixture

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • as needed olive oil spray For spraying the onion before air frying.

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Onion - Peel the outer skin of the onion, cut about 1 inch off the top, and slice the onion down to the bottom to create petal-like cuts.
  • Step 2: Make the Coating Mixture - In a bowl, whisk together flour, paprika, garlic salt, thyme, and oregano. In another bowl, mix milk and eggs until smooth.
  • Step 3: Coat the Onion - Open the petals, dip in the egg mixture, then coat with the flour mixture, ensuring all petals are covered.
  • Step 4: Prepare for Air Frying - Spray the coated onion with olive oil spray and place it upright in the air fryer basket.
  • Step 5: Air Fry the Onion - Set the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and cook for 10-15 minutes, spraying with olive oil halfway through.
  • Step 6: Enjoy! - Once golden-brown and crispy, remove from the air fryer and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For extra crunch, consider using panko breadcrumbs in addition to the flour. You can also experiment with spices for added flavor.
