Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts trimmed of fat
  • 0.5 cup yellow onion peeled & finely chopped
  • 2 cups honey barbecue sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 0.25 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Chicken - Trim any excess fat from the chicken breasts and place them in the bottom of your crockpot.
  • Step 2: Sauté the Onion - Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, add the chopped onion, and sauté for 3-5 minutes until translucent.
  • Step 3: Mix the Sauce - In a bowl, combine honey barbecue sauce, honey, and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until well mixed.
  • Step 4: Combine Ingredients in the Crockpot - Pour sautéed onions over the chicken, then pour the BBQ sauce mixture on top, ensuring the chicken is well coated.
  • Step 5: Cook on Low - Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  • Step 6: Shred the Chicken - Remove the chicken from the crockpot, shred it with forks, and return it to the pot, mixing it with the sauce.
  • Step 7: Serve and Enjoy! - Serve on toasted buns, over rice, or in tacos, garnished with parsley or coleslaw.

Notes

For deeper flavor, marinate the chicken in the BBQ sauce mixture for a few hours or overnight. Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken reaches 165°F.
