For the Cake:
  • 1 cup butter at room temperature
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 3 pieces eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cups unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups buttermilk

Method
 

From Start to Finish:
  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add the vanilla extract.
  4. Step 4: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Step 5: With the mixer on low, alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Step 6: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  7. Step 7: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Step 8: Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for a smooth batter.
  • Sift cocoa powder to avoid clumps.
