Ingredients

For the Donuts:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup milk (chocolate almond milk or regular cow's milk)
For the Glaze:
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder (for the glaze)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (more if needed)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup rainbow sprinkles (optional)

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Whisk
  • Donut Pan
  • Cooling rack
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This is the perfect temperature for baking moist donuts.
  2. Lightly grease your donut pan with cooking spray or butter to prevent sticking.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, dark brown sugar, salt, cocoa powder, and baking powder until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the egg, melted unsalted butter, vanilla extract, and chocolate almond milk until smooth.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined; be careful not to overmix.
  6. Using a piping bag or a spoon, fill each donut cavity about three-quarters full with batter.
  7. Place the donut pan in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Then, carefully transfer the donuts to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  9. In a medium bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until smooth.
  10. Once the donuts are completely cool, dip the tops into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off.
  11. While the glaze is still wet, sprinkle rainbow sprinkles on top for a festive touch!

Notes

  • Prepare the batter in advance and store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
  • Store baked donuts in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature.
  • For longer storage, freeze the donuts and glaze after thawing.
