Easy Beef and Broccoli (with Ground Beef)

A quick, savory stir-fry of ground beef and tender broccoli in a simple soy-hoisin sauce.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 yellow onion diced
  • 8 ounces broccoli florets chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger minced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional)

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Spatula or wooden spoon

Method

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and diced onion and cook, breaking the beef into pieces, until the meat is browned and the onion is softened, about 5–7 minutes.
  2. Stir in the sesame oil, then add the chopped broccoli florets and cook for 1–2 minutes until they begin to brighten and soften.
  3. Add the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, and brown sugar if using; stir to coat everything evenly.
  4. Let the mixture simmer for 2–3 minutes more, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli is tender and the sauce is slightly reduced.
  5. Serve the beef and broccoli warm over rice, in lettuce wraps, or in bowls.

Notes

  • If you prefer a sweeter, stickier sauce, add up to 1/4 cup brown sugar.
  • The recipe as written has a light coating of sauce.
  • For a much saucier stir-fry, double the sauce ingredients.
