Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 large Yellow Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 large Green Bell Pepper, finely chopped

Sauces and Seasonings

  • 15 ounces No-salt-added Tomato Sauce
  • ¼ cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 1 tablespoon Yellow Mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Chili Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Granulated Sugar
  • ½ teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ teaspoon Pepper

Topping

  • 32 ounces Frozen Tater Tots (1 package)
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese, shredded (optional)

Garnish

  • to taste Fresh Parsley, finely chopped for garnish

Instructions

  • Step 1: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until evenly browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Step 2: Add the finely chopped yellow onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for about 5 minutes until tender.
  • Step 3: Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, sugar, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  • Step 4: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Transfer the meat mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Step 5: Evenly distribute the frozen tater tots over the top of the meat mixture.
  • Step 6: Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  • Step 7: If using cheddar cheese, sprinkle it over the top during the last 5 minutes of baking.
  • Step 8: Garnish with finely chopped fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding minced garlic when sautéing the onions and bell peppers. This casserole can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
