Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Vegetable Peeler

Ingredients

Butter

  • ½ cup unsalted butter

Sugar and Spices

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger

Apples

  • 4 apples, peeled, cored, and cut into wedges Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji work well.

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Apples. Begin by selecting your favorite apples. Carefully peel the apples, core them to remove the seeds, and slice them into wedges.
  • Step 2: Melt the Butter. In a large skillet, add the unsalted butter and place it over medium heat. Allow the butter to melt completely.
  • Step 3: Combine Sugar and Spices. In a separate bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground ginger.
  • Step 4: Cook the Apples. Once the butter is melted and bubbling, carefully add the apple wedges to the skillet. Stir to coat the apples in the melted butter, then sprinkle the sugar and spice mixture over them.
  • Step 5: Sauté Until Tender. Cook the apples for about 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender and caramelized.
  • Step 6: Serve Warm. Remove from heat and serve warm, either on their own or as a topping for pancakes or ice cream.

Notes

For a more complex flavor, try adding a splash of vanilla extract to the melted butter. You can also mix and match spices for added warmth.
