Homemade Chicken Taco Seasoning Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 4 tablespoons chili powder McCormick recommended
  • 3 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Mexican oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons salt

Method
 

  1. Measure all spices into a mixing bowl.
  2. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is uniform in color and texture.
  3. Transfer the seasoning to a clean jar with a tight-fitting lid.
  4. Store in a cool, dry place until ready to use.

Notes

  • Use 2 tablespoons of this seasoning per 1 pound of ground chicken with 1/2 cup water for tacos.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a skillet and brown 1 pound ground chicken before adding seasoning.
  • Simmer seasoned chicken with liquid for 5–10 minutes until thickened.
  • Warm tortillas and assemble with lettuce, cheddar, and diced tomatoes.
  • Adjust salt to taste if reducing sodium elsewhere in the meal.
