Instructions
- Start by measuring out ½ cup of uncooked popcorn kernels. This amount will yield about 12-15 cups of popped popcorn, perfect for sharing or for enjoying throughout the week.
- Take your microwave-safe bowl and add the measured popcorn kernels to it. Make sure to choose a bowl that is large enough to allow the popcorn to expand as it pops.
- Cover the bowl with a microwave-safe lid or a large plate. This will help trap steam and ensure that your popcorn pops evenly.
- Place the bowl in the microwave and set the timer for 2 to 4 minutes. Start with 2 minutes and listen carefully. When the popping slows down to about 2 seconds between pops, it’s time to stop the microwave to prevent burning.
- While the popcorn is popping, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a separate microwave-safe container, which should only take about 30 seconds.
- Once your popcorn has finished popping, carefully remove the bowl from the microwave (it will be hot!). Drizzle the melted butter over the popcorn and toss gently to combine. Add salt to taste, mixing until evenly coated.
- Your homemade popcorn is ready to be devoured! Serve it warm in a bowl, or store it in an airtight container if you're saving it for later.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh popcorn kernels. Old kernels may not pop as well.
- Make sure to stay close to the microwave while popping to avoid burning.
- Don’t be afraid to experiment with flavors! Try adding Parmesan cheese, ranch seasoning, or your favorite spice blend.
- If you find your popcorn is a bit chewy, it may be due to excess moisture. Try to eat it fresh for the best texture.
