Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • water enough to cover the meat
  • 1 oz taco seasoning optional, or use other seasoning

Equipment

  • large deep skillet or saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Colander
  • Measuring Spoon

Method

  1. Place 1 lb lean ground beef into a large deep skillet or saucepan.
  2. Add enough water to the pan to just cover the meat.
  3. Turn the heat to medium and break the meat apart with a wooden spoon so it is in small crumbles.
  4. Bring the pot slowly to a gentle boil, stirring often to keep the meat separated.
  5. Lower the heat to a simmer, cover, and cook until the meat is fully browned and cooked through, about 15–20 minutes.
  6. Drain the cooked meat in a colander to remove excess liquid.
  7. Return the drained meat to the pan and stir in 1 oz taco seasoning, if using; heat briefly to combine.

Notes

  • Use enough water only to cover the meat for even cooking.
  • Break up clumps early so the meat cooks uniformly.
  • Drain well to remove excess liquid before seasoning.
  • Substitute your preferred seasoning if not using taco mix.
  • Cook until no pink remains and juices run clear.
