Ingredients

  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger minced
  • 2 cloves garlic finely diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Equipment

  • Medium Saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Grater or zester
  • Cutting board and knife

Method

  1. Gather all your ingredients measured out and ready to go.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the orange juice, white sugar, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and soy sauce. Whisk until the sugars dissolve.
  3. Add the minced fresh ginger and finely diced garlic to the saucepan and stir to combine.
  4. Sprinkle in the red pepper flakes and adjust according to your spice preference.
  5. Grate the zest from the orange and add it to the mixture.
  6. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
  7. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with a splash of cold water to create a slurry. Once the sauce boils, whisk in the cornstarch mixture and cook until thickened.

  9. Remove from heat and serve drizzled over your favorite dishes or as a dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Use freshly squeezed orange juice for the best flavor.
