- Place 1 pound fresh green beans (washed and trimmed) in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Add 3 tablespoons water to the bowl.
- Cover the bowl with a microwave-safe plate.
- Microwave on high for 4 to 6 minutes, checking at 4 minutes; cook until the green beans are just tender.
- Carefully remove the plate (steam will be hot) and drain any remaining liquid from the bowl.
- Add 1 tablespoon butter to the hot green beans and toss to coat.
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste and serve immediately.
