Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water with 2 ½ teaspoons of active dry yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Once the yeast mixture is ready, add 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt, 2 tablespoons of oil, 3 ¼ cups of bread flour, and 2 teaspoons of salt. Mix until a rough dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, mix together 1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese, 1 cup of grated mild cheddar cheese, and 1 8oz block of cream cheese. Stir in the 2 diced jalapenos until evenly combined.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle about ½-inch thick. Spread the cheesy jalapeno mixture evenly over the surface of the dough.
- Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into strips about 1 inch wide. Twist each strip gently and lay them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover the twisted breadsticks with a cloth and let them rise for an additional 20-30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the breadsticks have risen, bake them for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Allow the breadsticks to cool slightly before serving. They are best enjoyed warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, leave some seeds in the jalapenos or use spicy cheese.
- Don’t skip the second rise; it’s essential for achieving fluffy breadsticks.
- Brush the breadsticks with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder before baking for extra flavor.
