Butter and Sugar Mixture

  • 2 cups brown sugar Firmly packed.

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Yams - Wash yams thoroughly, peel, and cut into medium-sized round slices, about 1 inch thick.
  • Step 2: Boil the Yams - Place sliced yams in a pot of water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cook until fork-tender (10-15 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  • Step 3: Prepare the Sauce - In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, add brown sugar, and stir until smooth and glossy (3-5 minutes).
  • Step 4: Combine the Yams and Sauce - In a baking dish, arrange yams and pour the sauce over them, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
  • Step 5: Bake the Candied Yams - Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), cover with foil, and bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbling and golden.
  • Step 6: Serve and Enjoy - Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with nuts, marshmallows, or cinnamon if desired.
