Ingredients

For the Cake:
  • 4 eggs eggs (at room temperature, separated)
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • ½ cup butter (unsalted, melted but at room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour (minus 2 tablespoons)
  • 2 cups milk (lukewarm)
  • Icing sugar (for dusting the cake)

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Electric Mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Rubber spatula
  • 9-inch Round Cake Pan
  • Cooling rack

Method

Instructions
  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your 9-inch round cake pan with butter or non-stick spray and set it aside.
  2. Step 2: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and icing sugar until pale and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add in Nutella, melted butter, and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  3. Step 3: In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold into the Nutella mixture in three additions.
  4. Step 4: In another bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, salt, and flour. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the lukewarm milk, stirring until just combined.
  5. Step 5: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Step 6: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a cooling rack. Dust with icing sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure eggs are at room temperature for better emulsification.
  • Whipping egg whites is crucial for the cake’s texture.
  • Be gentle when folding in the egg whites.
  • Let the cake cool completely before slicing for clean cuts.
