Cooking Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the Onions - Heat the olive oil in a skillet or on your Blackstone grill over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Sauté the onions, stirring occasionally, until they’re soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Set aside.
- Step 2: Form the Patties - While the onions are cooking, take your ground beef and divide it into four equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten them gently into round disc patties.
- Step 3: Cook the Patties - Increase the heat on your skillet or Blackstone grill to high. Once hot, place the burger patties on the cooking surface. Using a spatula, smash each patty down firmly, creating a thin, even layer. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Step 4: Add the Onions - After about 2-3 minutes of cooking, when the bottoms are beautifully browned, flip the patties. Immediately place a generous amount of the caramelized onions on top of each patty. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes, or until the burgers reach your desired level of doneness.
- Step 5: Toast the Buns - While the burgers finish cooking, cut your hamburger buns in half and toast them lightly on the grill or in a separate pan until golden brown.
- Step 6: Assemble the Burgers - Place the burger patties with onions on the bottom halves of the toasted buns. Add any additional toppings you desire, then top with the other half of the bun.
Notes
- Ensure your skillet or grill is hot enough for a perfect crust.
- Don’t press too hard on the patties after smashing to keep them juicy.
- Add a splash of balsamic vinegar to the onions for more flavor.
