Ingredients
  

For the Gratin:
  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter for greasing the baking dish
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves optional for garnish

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Step 2: Using the unsalted butter, generously grease your baking dish.
  3. Step 3: Using your mandoline slicer, thinly slice the Yukon gold potatoes to about 1/8 inch thick.
  4. Step 4: In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well blended.
  5. Step 5: Begin layering half of the sliced potatoes in the greased dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half of the grated Gruyère cheese on top.
  6. Step 6: Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese. Finish with a layer of cheese.
  7. Step 7: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Step 8: Let your Potatoes Gratin with Garlic rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Feel free to experiment with different cheeses for a unique flavor.
  • Assemble the gratin a day ahead and refrigerate for convenience.
  • Don't skip the resting time after baking to help the gratin set.
