Protein Coffee

A simple, energizing coffee drink boosted with a vanilla protein shake for a quick breakfast or post-workout pick-me-up.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 ounces espresso or cold brew see notes
  • 1/3 cup protein shake (prepared) made by blending 1/4 cup vanilla protein powder with 1/2 cup milk or water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar optional
  • ice as needed

Equipment

  • Nespresso machine
  • Blender (for protein shake) or shaker bottle
  • Glass

Method
 

  1. Prepare the protein shake by blending 1/4 cup vanilla protein powder with 1/2 cup milk or water until smooth; set aside.
  2. Fill a glass with ice.
  3. Pour 2 ounces of freshly brewed espresso or cold brew over the ice.
  4. Slowly pour the prepared protein shake over the coffee.
  5. Taste and add up to 1 teaspoon sugar if desired, then stir gently and add more ice if needed.

Notes

  • I typically use two Nespresso pods or two shots of espresso.
  • Cold brew or instant coffee dissolved in a little hot water also works.
  • Leftovers keep covered in the refrigerator for up to three days; mix before drinking.
  • To freeze, pour into an ice cube tray and reblend when ready to enjoy.
  • Whey, brown rice, or casein protein powders are suitable choices depending on preference.
