A quick and savory homemade spaghetti sauce with ground beef and sausage.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes
Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound sausage
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder or 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic)
  • 26 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 14 ounce can diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce or coconut aminos (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar or brown sugar or maple syrup (optional)

Equipment

  • Large skillet or saucepan

Method

  1. Heat a large skillet or saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and sausage and cook, breaking up the meat, until browned and no longer pink, about 6–8 minutes.
  2. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the browned meat and cook until the onion is softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Drain excess fat from the pan, then return the pan to the heat and stir in the Italian seasoning, kosher salt, and black pepper.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, and Worcestershire sauce. Taste and add the optional sweetener if desired. If you prefer a thinner sauce, add up to 1 cup water.
  5. Bring the sauce to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes to meld flavors and thicken slightly.
  6. Remove from heat and serve over cooked pasta or as desired.
