  • 1 tablespoon McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup red, white, and blue sprinkles
For the Frosting:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 to 2 ¼ cups confectioners sugar
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons cream or milk
  • 1 ounce bottle McCormick Red Food Color
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles for decorating

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Whisk
  • Baking Sheet
  • Star-Shaped Cookie Cutter
  • Cooling rack
  • Spatula
  • Decorating Bags

Method

Cooking Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, ensuring a non-stick surface for your cookies.
  2. Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk until well combined. Add the egg and continue whisking until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in the red, white, and blue sprinkles.
  4. Step 4: Roll out small portions of dough on a lightly floured surface and use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Step 5: Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Keep a close eye to avoid overbaking.
  6. Step 6: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  7. Step 7: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add confectioners sugar, mixing well. Add cream or milk to achieve a smooth consistency and add red food coloring if desired.
  8. Step 8: Frost the cooled cookies and sprinkle additional red, white, and blue sprinkles on top for a festive touch.

Notes

  • Let your butter come to room temperature for best results.
  • Be careful not to overmix the dough; this can lead to tough cookies.
  • Experiment with different cookie cutters for various occasions.
