Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup water
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter cut into chunks
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large sheet pan.
  • Step 2: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients.
  • Step 3: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and mix in buttermilk and vanilla.
  • Step 4: In a saucepan, combine water, butter, and cocoa powder. Bring to a boil.
  • Step 5: Combine the hot cocoa mixture with the dry ingredients and egg mixture.
  • Step 6: Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  • Step 7: Prepare the topping by melting caramel with milk and mixing in chopped pecans.
  • Step 8: Spread the caramel and pecan mixture over the cooled cake.
  • Step 9: For the icing, melt butter and cocoa, then whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla.
  • Step 10: Drizzle the icing over the caramel layer and serve.
