Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey (90% to 95% lean)
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes use less for milder sausage
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil for cooking

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Non-stick Skillet
  • Spatula
  • Cooking thermometer

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, extra virgin olive oil, maple syrup, dried sage, kosher salt, ground black pepper, red pepper flakes, and ground nutmeg. Use your hands to mix until well incorporated, being careful not to overmix.
  2. Divide the mixture into equal portions, about ¼ cup each, and form them into patties.
  3. In a non-stick skillet, add the canola oil and heat over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
  4. Carefully place the patties in the skillet, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through, aiming for an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  5. Enjoy your Turkey Sausage in various dishes, such as on a toasted English muffin or in a Turkey Noodle Soup.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding minced garlic or onion to the mixture.
  • Let the patties rest after cooking to retain moisture.
  • Experiment with different spices for a unique twist.
  • Chill the patties for at least 30 minutes before cooking for a firmer texture.
